On June 15, 2023, a team led by Huang Changqun, Deputy Director of the National Center for Mental Health, visited Wuhan to investigate the construction of social psychological service system. The tour was accompanied by Cui Rui, Deputy Director of the Hubei Health Commission, Tang Shiming, Director of the Office of Hubei Mental Health Prevention and Treatment Center and individuals from the Wuhan Health Commission.

The team led by Deputy Director Huang Changqun first visited Wuhan No. 6 High School to investigate how primary and high school psychological health work promoted the integration of medicine and teaching. Chen Minli, Director of Teaching and Research Office of Primary and High School Psychology of Wuhan Academy of Educational Sciences, Zhong Baoliang, Deputy President of Wuhan Mental Health Center, Sun Fang, Vice President of Jiang’an District Teachers Training School, Zhu Weilin, Principal of Wuhan No. 6 High School and Xia Jinwang, Secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Wuhan No. 6 High School accompanied the visit. The investigative team reviewed documents on students’ psychological education, mental counseling and medicine-teaching integration provided by the school. The team also visited the Psychological Health Workshop, Destressing and Relaxing Room and Group Counseling Room and carefully asked about the current status and achievements on medicine-teaching integration, and sufficiently affirmed the collaboration between Wuhan Mental Health Center and Wuhan No. 6 High School in implementing the integration work.

After that, the investigative team went to the Erqi Area of Wuhan Mental Health Center, where they visited the Wuhan Psychological Counseling and Treatment Center and held a discussion. Zhao Jun, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Wuhan Mental Health Center, extended his warm welcome to the group led by Huang Changqun, and Vice President Zhong Baoliang introduced the general information about social psychological service system building, psychological specialty characteristics and cultivation of psychotherapeutic talents in Wuhan.

Deputy Director Huang Changqun praised the accomplishments of Wuhan in building social psychological service system, adding that Wuhan has preliminarily explored a path to psychological service industry management, mental (psychological) clinic building in comprehensive hospitals, psychological health promoting medicine-teaching integration in primary and high schools and “three specialty” psychological service system building. He hoped that Wuhan Mental Health Center could step up efforts to further advance the systematization, normalization and standardization of social psychological service, make more exploratory breakthroughs and accumulate more precious experience for building a nationwide psychological service system.
