October 10 marked the 32nd World Mental Health Day, which is themed on “Promoting Child and Adolescent Mental Health to Jointly Safeguard a Beautiful Future”.

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China stated that “great importance should be attached to mental health”. To strengthen publicity of knowledge related to mental health and promote public awareness, the closing ceremony of the Wuhan 2023 World Mental Health Day Publicity Event and the 2nd Wuhan Youth Psychological Melodrama Show was held at the Academic Exchange Center of Jianghan University on the afternoon of October 10.

A Call for Attention to children and adolescents’ mental health

Individuals from the National Center for Mental Health, Hubei Health Commission, Wuhan People's Government, Jianghan University, Political and Legal Affairs Commission of Wuhan, Wuhan Health Commission, Wuhan Civilization Office, Party School of Wuhan CPC Committee and 21 departments directly under the municipality and 15 district-level health bureaus attended the event.

In the keynote speech, the head of the National Center for Mental Health, Hubei Health Commission expressed a sincere hope that more parents, teachers and professionals could tap into the inner world of children, answer their questions from their perspectives and help them solve their puzzles and concerns during their growth, as well as an encouragement that the vast number of children and adolescents could boldly be tide riders of the new era.

The Most Beautiful Representatives Made Their Appearances on Stage

Every star should shine and every piece of understanding is worth waiting for. The melodrama dance We All Come from Stars by performers of Jianghan University opened up a unique spiritual world of the autistic group to convey their beautiful imaginations that could not be expressed by worlds, inviting more people to get a closer glimpse of their heart. The event was officially started with the dance performance.

During the event, certificates of the Most Beautiful Representatives were awarded to 30 individuals as an encouragement of more people to jointly participate in the construction of Wuhan Mental Service System and make greater contributions to a civilized, healthy and peaceful Wuhan.

To further promote social consensus on mental health and guide the vast number of cadres, masses, individuals and organizations to continue to deeply participate in the construction of the social psychological service, the Leading Group Office of Wuhan Social Psychological Service System Construction will organize the Most Beautiful Representative publicity event for nationwide social psychological service construction pilot program and has identified 10 organizations, 20 stations and 106 individuals as the most beautiful representatives to attend this year's publicity event the of World Mental Health Day.

Continuing to Safeguard Children and Adolescents’ Mental Health

On the afternoon of the same day, the unveiling ceremony of “Lexiang Psychological Refueling Station” was successfully held.

Committed to raising public awareness in psychological health, Wuhan Social Psychological Service Industry Association is China’s first urban industry association at a sub-provincial level under the name of social psychological services. The mini APP “Lexiang Psychological Refueling Station” created by the association in collaboration with Hubei Radio and Television News Center cover functions of psychological counseling, science publicity, expert introduction and industrial news report to provide high-quality and comprehensive psychological health services for children and adolescents.

Four psychological health workers from Wuhan Hospital of Psychotherapy and Wuhan 68th High School delivered keynote speeches on children and adolescents’ psychological health. The addiction medicine physician, school psychological health teacher, clinic psychotherapist and children and adolescents’ psychological physician shared their experiences on promoting psychological health among children and adolescents from perspectives of hospital, school, family and society, providing thoughts for the effective collaboration among families, schools, hospitals and communities.

The Brilliant and Healing Psychological Melodramas

Notably, the event also included a special session to confer awards for outstanding programs and organizing units of the 2nd Wuhan Youth Psychological Melodrama Show.

To meet the requirement of Wuhan municipal Party committee and municipal government to vigorously advance the Healthy Wuhan initiative and promote psychological health awareness in the vast number of young people, the Leading Group Office of Social Psychological Service System Construction Work organized the 2nd Wuhan Youth Psychological Melodrama Show themed on “Bright Hope ` Growth toward Sunshine”.

Since its launch on May 25, this show has solicited dozens of melodrama works submitted by different industries, which highlight a wide variety of features: these drama works touch upon themes of psychological construction in the era of AI, psychological responsive measures to cellphone addiction, psychological adjustment for the “letting it riot or lying flat” mentality in the face of fierce competition, psychological prevention of school bullying, psychological aid for PUA, psychological adjustment for depression and anxiety, psychological intervention for PTSD, home psychological education for adolescents and self acceptance.

After a fierce competition, 8 dramas including Depression & Healing were honored the “Best Drama Award”, 2 drams including “Addiction of Heart” were honored the “Special Nomination Award”, 13 organizations including Hanjiang University were honored the “Best Organizing Award” and 10 organizations like Hubei University of Technology were honored the “Organizing Award”.

Wuhan Hospital of Psychotherapy brought the wonderful melodrama Depression & Healing, winning the Best Drama award, that focuses upon common psychological conflicts in adolescents and demonstrates the Satir Family Reconstruction process, providing great implications for family education. All these were just one corner of the constant efforts put in by relevant authorities and all walks of life in promoting psychological health among children and adolescents.

According to individuals familiar with the situation, Wuhan was included among pilot cities for nationwide psychological service system construction in April 2020. Over the past three years, Wuhan has made great achievements for the period, for example, a multi-department psychological service cooperation mechanism has been established, online and offline psychological service platforms have been improved, social psychological service talents have been cultivated, social psychological service competences have been actively honed and relevant work experience and achievements have been recognized and promoted.
